Baby development
- The brain continues to develop rapidly, forming more complex neural connections.
- The baby's lungs are more developed — surfactant production is increasing.
- The baby blinks, coughs, and can make sucking motions.
- All five senses are now active.
Changes for you
- Last week of the second trimester.
- Restless leg syndrome is common and can disrupt sleep.
- Pelvic girdle pain (SPD) may be more noticeable.
- Your centre of gravity has shifted noticeably.
Tips
- Congratulations — you're about to enter the third trimester.
- If restless legs are keeping you awake, try gentle stretching and magnesium-rich foods (nuts, seeds, leafy greens) — discuss supplements with your GP.
- Start baby-proofing research and planning your nursery.
- Build your support network — who will help when the baby arrives?
Appointments
- GD follow-up if needed.
- Whooping cough (pertussis) vaccination — due between 20–32 weeks.

Australian notes
- The whooping cough (pertussis) vaccine is recommended for ALL pregnant women in Australia between 20–32 weeks, ideally closer to 20–28 weeks. It is free under the National Immunisation Program.
- Influenza vaccine is also recommended for all pregnant women in Australia — free under the NIP.
