Your baby is about the size of an avocado.

Common this week: Possible first kicks (quickening), Back pain, Round ligament pain, Constipation, Heartburn.
Baby development
- The baby can hear your voice — talking and reading aloud is wonderful from now on.
- The eyes are moving slowly beneath closed eyelids.
- The baby's skeleton is changing from soft cartilage to bone.
- Toenails and fingernails are beginning to grow.
Changes for you
- You may begin feeling the first fluttery movements (quickening) — like butterflies or bubbles.
- Appetite increases noticeably as nausea fades.
- The uterus is now about halfway between the pubic bone and navel.
- You may notice your centre of gravity shifting slightly.
Tips
- Start talking, singing, or reading to your baby — they can hear you.
- Consider pregnancy-safe skincare — many Australian brands now offer pregnancy-safe ranges.
- Aim for 8–10 glasses of water per day.
- If you are Rh-negative, ask your doctor about Anti-D injections.
Appointments
- Routine antenatal visit.
- If Rh-negative, discuss Anti-D prophylaxis with your doctor.
Warning signs
- No fetal movement felt by week 20+ (first-time mums may feel later)
- Bleeding or discharge
- Fever
