Your baby is about the size of a large bok choy.

Common this week: Severe heartburn, Back pain, Braxton Hicks, Fatigue, Shortness of breath, Emotional sensitivity.
Baby development
- The brain is developing folds (gyri and sulci) to pack in more brain cells.
- Lanugo (fine body hair) is beginning to disappear.
- The baby can distinguish between light and dark.
- Bone marrow is now entirely responsible for producing red blood cells.
Changes for you
- Heartburn may be more severe as the baby pushes up against the stomach.
- Backache is nearly universal at this stage.
- You may begin to feel Braxton Hicks contractions more often.
- Emotions can run high as the birth approaches.
Tips
- Start your hospital bag. Include: birth plan, Medicare card, private health card, toiletries, loose comfortable clothes, snacks for labour, phone charger.
- Freeze some meals for after the birth.
- Discuss cord blood banking with your doctor if interested.
- Attend any remaining antenatal classes.
Appointments
- Routine antenatal check (every 2–4 weeks or more often if needed).
Warning signs
- Regular contractions before 37 weeks
- Persistent severe heartburn (may need investigation)
- Decreased fetal movement
